How do you represent your technical side when you haven’t been in a super relatable technical role? How to gain expertise?
How do you pick the new field to go into? (i.e. I’m in networking but want to get into analytics)
How to be a good leader or transition into a leadership role?
Transitioning out of pure tech into other fields
Tips and Tricks:
Show that you are passionate about the future, not the past
Have side projects and leave a paper trail about what you’re interested in to build a portfolio of projects
Document the little things
Keep relationships ongoing and surround yourselves with people who are really interested in the same areas
Engage with people that you interact with online and in person
Offer to take people out for coffee or lunch in order to gain mentorship opportunities
Don’t be afraid to look for mentors in the fields that you want to get into or people who are working in the role you are interested in
If you are interested in working in a different role, just start doing the work and help out on projects
Look for people who are passionate in the areas you want to dive into and see how you meet their enthusiasm
Where do you get experience? Community college courses, note that some industries are more concerned with actual work experience than software engineering industries. Find well-known courses, blog, do little side projects, look at hackathons.
