Period tracking apps made by men….!?
Teams of women should make products for women!
Women are 50% of the population
Trying to apply one idea to all of them is destined to fail
Where do we draw the line of what’s problematic? Maybe it’s too soon to draw a line. Maybe that pits us against one another
Little girls will wear their princess stuff while playing in the mud – bending role expectations
Products should blur the line. Don’t market to girls – market to kids!
Parents should be open to camps, introducing kids to things that anyone could be interested in – not introducing them to “boy stuff” or “girl stuff”
The other side is the self esteem issue.
Meeting children of any gender at where they are is really critical
Young kids don’t want to code because it’s “doing math” but when you tell them that it’s doing magic tricks they’ll get excited
Saying “you’re a girl but it’s ok for you to do this male-dominated thing” almost can reinforce the thinking that “hm I’m a girl and things are gender-based and some things are not designed for me”
Are the designers of products women? How involved in the end product are they? Huge push right now to bring in end users into the development. Empathizing with someone about their problems and designing for their problems.
