How to give a talk
By Maria Andersen
Never be afraid to sign-up for a talk that is 3-6 months out – it is a good way to learn
Weed down the audience by nods, engages allies, making them stand-up
Post It Notes to organize thoughts – question, for example:
• What is it?
• Use it for?
• Other questions/answers
Try to give the talk before you have the presentation and organize the slide deck.
Visuals and cues before anything is scripted out
Don’t use very many words on a slide
Have a great framework (like a gameboard – game of life)
Confidence comes from being prepared
Keep your post its as backups (just in case technology)
Make sure you put the time in for even 4 people
Use fun visuals:
• Built a house
• Lego Figures
• Fisher Price
